Retail Giants go head to head on Cambridge Leisure
January 18, 2012 No CommentsCambridge property agent Carter Jonas have reported a forthcoming clash at Cambridge Leisure park as 2 heavyweight supermarkets look to go head-to-head for business. They confirmed a new lease has been agreed with retail giant Sainsbury’s, and they will be moving into the much fought over vacant unit under the travel lodge. The 4,300 sq ft space has produced a lot of interest with Sainsbury leading the way despite being directly opposite their rivals (Tesco) premises. Tesco have been on the site for a number of years and have shown strong signs of trading with local businesses, colleges, and neighbourhoods taking advantage of the local amenity.
As further developments are planned in and around the leisure park for retail, office and residential parks it is proving to be a prime retail site for Cambridge.
Proof to this is is that despite alternative units available in the city and away from competitors, firms are now happy to compete directly against one another to secure their place on the park.
This shows just how far the site has come over the last 8 years with market leading brands now “setting up their stalls” and paying premium rates to trade on what was once an old cattle market.
The site now caters for a growing number of consumers and is able to attract a wide demographic by providing a broad range of amenities to the local area. This diversity helps to draw strong trade to the park so that all the business benefit from the passing trade. It is no surprise that any vacant units offer an attractive proposition to commercial business who are happy to pay premium rates to be involved within the site.
